Unexpected...

Friday night John and I were helping a friend move into her new place. I was just coming down the stairs with a few things when John stopped me and said, your dad was in a motorcycle accident. The world just stopped. I know it was immediately after that statement that he told me my dad was ok and alive, but it felt like forever.

My sister and I hauled it down to the hospital where they took him and there we met Kim, my dad's girlfriend. As we walked up there was a group of people outside yelling and crying out to Jesus for help. Everything was so surreal and I felt like crying for those people, I'm not sure what happened, but it didn't sound good. Inside the emergency room Kim came up to us and I noticed that the left side of her jeans was covered in blood. I asked her what happened to her leg and she said it was blood from my dad. Oh good lord, I started to panic, but she assured us it wasn't as bad as it looked. After what felt like forever, we finally got to go back and see him. He looked better for someone who was in a motorcycle accident, but still not what I had expected him to look like, neck brace and all. I felt like crying. But I knew if I lost it, everyone would, so I was strong. I eventually got the full story of what happened. My dad and Kim were headed to Quaker steak and noticed a woman driving without her headlights on and swerving in and out of traffic. My dad tried to avoid her, but then she swerved into his lane and pushed him into a curb. Typically he would have been fine, but the foot pedal caught the curb and the bike came out from under the two of them (much better than falling on top of them). My dad says that he remembers grabbing Kim's jacket to throw her on top of him so he would take the brunt of the fall. He was successful, but they were both still thrown into oncoming traffic. I know God was watching over them because the first witness to run over and block traffic from hitting them was an off duty EMT. You can't get better than that. Witnesses say that the woman slowed down, but then kept on driving. My sister has already called the police department, sheriffs department and everyone she can to try and help get information to find this woman. She had to have known she caused this, why would she just drive away. That makes me sick to think people are more concerned for their own well being than the life of others.

Kim has just a little road rash on her hand and knee, but my dad broke all ribs on his left side and has 17 fractures on top of that. I've been to the hospital everyday since and taken pictures for him so he can see how far he's come. If you wish to see them you can click here. Even though they aren't seriously gruesome, I figured I would link them somewhere else for those who don't want to see. After looking at his progress each day, it's amazing what the power of prayer can do.

Thank you to so many of you who have called and emailed your prayers and thoughts! You have no idea how much my family appreciates it!

God Bless.
